Hosts: The Gerlich Clan
St. Louis, Missouri
Millenium Hotel, 200 South 4th Street
September 28, 2012
Thank you to the Fishes and McNamees for sending photos of the reunion for the website.
After action report from Smack and Frank:
Sue and I arrived at the reunion on Wednesday and met up with the other early birds, Mark and Gayle, Janet and Frank and Bonnie and Schuyler.. We all strolled to the Schlafly Tap Room that night and enjoyed great food and great beer. And of course, reminiscing about the San Juan Reunion. What a start for the 2012 Reunion.
The next day, the early birds convened for lunch and cruised by Busch Stadium, a pilgrimage for me. We continued our recon of downtown St. Louis and made another discovery: a life-sized diorama of the Corps of Discovery, the Lewis and Clark Expediton. And there, Mark met his new BFF, Seaman, a black Newfoundland dog purchased on the journey by Lewis. That night, a large group of us dined at Locano's Restaurant on "The Hill," the famed Italian section of St. Louis. It's a residential neighborhood, but it boasts of over 20 Italian restaurants. Baseball fans will recall that this was the home of Yogi Berra and Joe Garagiola.
Friday saw the great influx of Jagers and the Reunion began in earnest. We teamed up with some of the new arrivals and visited Camp Dubois, Illinois where Lewis and Clark officially began their journey. On our return, we went to John D. McGurk's Pub and Garden. We enjoyed it so much, we returned on Sunday.
Several Jagers attended a Cardinals baseball game. Others traveled to Herman, Missouri, a town with a German heritage, while others stayed close and visited the Anheuser Busch Brewery and the Clydesdales. And sampled free beer, of course. Another attraction was Fast Eddie's restaurant; well worth the drive, according to those who enjoyed it, especially since they crossed both the Missoiuri and Mississippi Rivers enroute. The Museum of Westward Expansion, located beneath the Arch, is incredible. It's a must if you ever get to St. Louis.
Check out the photos. They're worth more than a thousand of our words.
Wish you were all here!
